One day, the air in Bramble Hollow would shift, growing sharper, cleaner, as though the wind had started over. Leaves would loosen their grip on the branches and dance to the ground like embers from a fire. Somewhere in that hush between seasons, when summer had just turned her back but winter hadn’t yet stirred, the Keeper would come.
